Description: Disused gravel-pit SE of Nether Sturston, Ashbourne. Looking W. Section in sandstones and conglomerates, Sherwood Sandstone Group. Section shows variably pebbly sandstones, interbedded with poorly-sorted, unstratified conglomerates. Planar cross-bedding in the sandstone unit above the hammer indicates deposition from the south-west. Patchy cementation by iron-oxides is present and many pebbles have surface pressure pits. Deposition in a fluvial environment during Permo-Triassic times is indicated.
