Description: Dove Dale. Looking NW. Close-up of Pickering Tor with Ilam Rock in the background. The River Dove has cut down through massive limestones forming a complex of knoll-reefs in the Milldale Limestones of probable Chadian age (C2S1 Zone). The progressive enlargement of two sets of intersecting vertical joints has led to the presence of such relict limestone pillars as seen in this photograph.
