Description: Ilam Rock and Pickering Tor in Dove Dale. Looking S. The River Dove has cut down through massive limestone forming a complex of knoll-reefs in the Milldale Limestones of probable Chadian age (C2S1 Zone). The progressive enlargement of two intersecting sets of major vertical joints has led to the presence of such relict limestone pillars as are seen in this photograph.
