Description: Buxton Quarry (Tarmac Ltd.), Hindlow, near Buxton. Looking SW. A 'pocket deposit' of Pliocene clay and dark Carboniferous shale revealed by quarrying for limestone. Pieces of fossil wood belonging to the Taxodiaceae were found in the clay which is comparable to the plant-bearing Kenslow Member of the Brassington Formation, the name given to pocket deposits elsewhere in the Derbyshire Limestone outcrop. Fragments of shale in the deposit have yielded goniatites and bivalves indicating an E2 - R2 age.
