Description: | Straiton Caravan Park, Burdiehouse, Edinburgh. Loss of property into a crownhole (sit) 18 - 21 m. across and deep over old stoop and room workings in the Burdiehouse Limestone (Clippens Mine). Surface deposits of a thin-bedded till on 'glacial' sand and gravel or man-made deposits are shown infilling an old gravel-pit. The limestone is about 27 feet thick. A local miner said that stoop robbing took place before the mine closed in c. 1962. |
