Description: Straiton Caravan Park, Burdiehouse, Edinburgh. Loss of property into crown hole (sit)18 - 21 m. across and deep over old stoop and room workings in the Burdiehouse Limestone (Clippens Mine). The scale of the subsidence is shown by the remains of the mobile home in the bottom of the hole. After infilling the hole, it opened up again as the infill flowed into the limestone mine workings. It is thought the collapse was due to the illegal removal of the supporting pillars after the mine closed in c. 1962.
