Caption: SW of Thwaite Flat.
Description: SW of Thwaite Flat. Panoramic view across Duddon Estuary to Lake District mountains. The prominent peak of Coniston Old Man, within the main outcrop of the Borrowdale Volcanic Group. The lower hills in the centre of the picture are made up largely of Ordovician and Silurian rocks exposed around Greenscoe, Ireleth and Kirkby Moor. These older rocks are faulted against Lower Carboniferous rocks underlying the lower ground to the west and are unconformably overlain by Lower Carboniferous rocks dipping gently away to the south-east.
