Caption: Oblique aerial view of Cowieslinn Quarry, Eddleston Valley, north of Peebles, Border Region.
Description: At least 25 metres of sand and gravel occur in a deep pre-glacial channel some 200 to 300 metres wide which lies to the west of the present course of the Eddleston Water. In Cowieslinn Pit up to eight metres of bedded coarse boulder gravel lie between thick bands of fine bedded and ripple-bedded sand with silty clay beds. Looking south. Cowieslinn Quarry is in foreground, Shipham Quarry in background. Moundy ice contact deposits with dominant coarse gravel to the east side of the valley. Note the preferential development to the west side of the valley.
