Description: | Force Crag Mine, Branthwaite. Force Crag Vein in No. 0 Level. Like most veins of its type Force Crag Vein is subject to great variations in width and composition. Here the vein is a narrow band of white baryte generally less than 0.3 m. wide though it widens in places, e.g. near the figure where a large central cavity, or vug is present. Note the abundant yellow and brown crusts of iron oxides and jarosite on the slate walls of the level. These are formed by oxidation of iron sulphides in the vein and wall rock. |
