Description: Middleton Limestone Mine, Midlothian. Mine in North Greens Limestone showing rooms and pillars exposed by recent quarrying activity. The floor of the quarry appears to be a bedding plane. The limestone is extracted from the massive lower 20 feet of the 50 feet thick seam. Chemical analysis shows that the stone is of uniformly high quality at 94% calcium carbonate.
