Description: | Middleton Limestone Mine, Midlothian. Mine in the Carboniferous North Greens Limestone showing de-lamination of bedding above room in mine brought about by recent quarrying activity. The limestone is extensively mined at this locality from a seam fifty feet thick. The upper 30 feet are composed of thin courses with shaly partings while the basal 20 feet are in massive beds. It is this lower portion that is mined. |
