Description: Oblique aerial view of the now disused Main (Ballachulish) Quarry at East Laroch, Inverness-shire. It is 400 yards long by 280 yards wide. The bulk of the commercial quality slate was derived from five seams. Dalradian Ballachulish Slates. Quarrying began in 1697 and during its heyday in the 18th and 19th centuries the excellent quality and large quantities that were produced placed Ballachulish in the forefront of the Scottish slate industry.
