Caption: The Bonawe Quarries, located on the north shore of Loch Etive, lying to the east of Connel Bridge, Argyll-shire.
Description: View north of current quarry face within the Cruachan monzodioritic facies of the early Devonian (c. 400 million year old) Etive pluton. Seen here is the clearly defined contact of a microdiorite dyke that cross cuts the Cruachan mozodiorite facies. The dyke has a pronounced fine grained 'chilled' margin against the host granitic rock.
