Description: Westfield Opencast Site, located five miles south-east of Kinross, Fife Region. The Ochil Fault zone at the northern limit of the coalfield looking west. Cementstones on dolerite occur on the upthrow (right) side of the fault. A wide range of plant and equipment is seen including face-shovel rope excavators that load the 35 ton capacity dump trucks. In the foreground right is a bulldozer with a ripper on the back. The vertical pieces of equipment are drilling rigs mostly of the rotary variety that drill holes up to 6.25 inches in diameter for the blasting operations. The face-shovel rope excavators are 150RB (Ruston Bucyrus) excavators with a seven cubic yard capacity. It was recorded that there were five in operation in 1978.
