Caption: Rashiehill Borehole, Slamannan, Stirling.
Description: Each length of core demands a complete 'round trip' of withdrawing and re-inserting the drillstring and considering many bores can be several thousand feet deep this is a long and expensive operation. After 'tripping out' the solid rock core is gently eased out of the core barrel into the hands of a driller who will place it into the waiting core box in the foreground, right. The travelling block, part of the hoisting system of the drilling rig is clearly seen in the background.
