Description: Rashiehill Borehole, Slamannan, Stirling. Unscrewing and pulling out a full core barrel from the borehole. The core barrel contains a solid core of rock drilled for examination by geologists. For each core barrel length of core the whole drillstring is withdrawn in an operation called 'tripping out' followed by a re-insertion called 'tripping in'. The whole process is called a 'round trip' and because of the time and work involved in this it is an expensive operation.
