Description: Rashiehill Borehole, Slamannan, Stirling. General view of the base of the boring platform with mud pits and tanks to the right. Mud is being returned to the tank nearest the photographer after screening to remove the cuttings. The mud pits are the large storage tanks for the circulating mud. The mud is used in the drilling process to transport the cuttings to the surface, to lubricate the drillstring and the bit and to cool the bit.
