Caption: | Bridge Farm borehole, Machrie, Arran. Lowering a flow probe down borehole with water discharge hose at side during exploration for groundwater. |
Description: | The borehole has been drilled to 100 m. depth in Permian sandstone and is 250 mm. in diameter. The 3-legged device is a centralizer for maintaining the probe in the centre of the borehole. The flow probe is the stainless steel cylinder which has been attached to a winch cable. The vertical cable takes power to the electric pump which is at 25 m. depth, below the water level. The green hose takes discharge water from the borehole to a tank where the flow rate is measured. |
