Caption: | Bridge Farm borehole, Machrie, Arran. Inside a BGS Land Rover equipped with down-hole T.V. equipment. This equipment is used regularly in groundwater abstraction boreholes in Scotland. |
Description: | It is useful for checking the integrity of the rock walls in the borehole and for identifying water-bearing fissures. The colour system is equipped with powerful halogen floodlights so that it can operate to 300 m. depth. A view of the borehole, drilled into Permian red sandstone, can be seen, with operator Alan Cripps controlling the rate of descent of the camera. |
