The Kirkconnel Splint Coal, 5 ft. thick overlain by 0.46 m. of comparatively undisturbed fakes and sandstone is exposed in bottom of cut. The upper dark layer is a glacially transported and contorted portion of the seam overlain by boulder clay, and separated from the roof of the undisturbed seam below generally by 0.46 m. of crushed rock. The total length of seam exposed is between 45 - 55 m. Opencast coal production.] |
