Caption: Oblique aerial view north from just west of Balloch to Arden, Rossdhu and Loch Lomond.
Description: The high ground farther north is composed of tightly folded and highly cleaved, greenschist facies, which were originally turbiditic Dalradian greywackes but are now slates, phyllites, schists and psammites. These rocks dip steeply for some 14 km. to Rubha Mor - Ben Lomond and from there north-westwards they have regionally gentle dips. The low and rising ground on the west side of Loch Lomond is underlain by Lower Devonian conglomerates and farther north downfaulted Upper Devonian/Lower Carboniferous sandstones and conglomerates.
