Description: Edinburgh City Bypass - Water of Leith with the north end of the Pentland Hills in the background. Gorge of Water of Leith. Cutting exposing Lower Carboniferous sedimentary rocks and Lower Devonian volcanic rocks. The preglacial valley has only been recognized in the lower reaches while the upper reaches from Balerno to Colinton follow an ice-gouged depression.
