Description: Siccar Point, viewed from the south-east. James Hutton's classic world-famous unconformity. He was the first geologist to grasp the true significance of such a structure. Red sandstones and conglomerates gently dipping to north of Upper Old Red Sandstone age, unconformably overlying grey greywackes and shales, vertical strike south-west to north-east of Llandovery (Silurian) age. Fault throws red sandstone down to south-east, along base of cliff.
