Description: | View east along Loch Cluanie from near the Cluanie Inn at the western end of the loch. Highland Region. This end of the loch is composed of Moine metasedimentary rocks. The rocks at the west end of the loch are the northward continuation of the Easter Glen Quoich Psammite. Between this and the Clunie Granodiorite (at the eastern end of the loch) are a thin pelite followed by a psammite forming a tight synform striking north-north-west to north-north-east and plunging c. 50 degrees south. The majority of the rocks in the area are sedimentary rocks that have undergone intense metamorphism and deformation and lie within the amphibolite facies. The age of the metamorphism is uncertain but may relate to more than one tectono-thermal event. |
