Description: | View to the north in Glen Roy from near the tourist viewpoint. Highland Region. The famous Parallel Roads of Glen Roy, former shorelines of a glacial lake. Thick deposits of morainic drift in the foreground were deposited close to the ice-limit during the Loch Lomond Readvance. Former shorelines (Parallel Roads) of an ice-dammed lake are visible on the valley sides. The shorelines were commonly caused by erosion at the back and gravel deposition at the front. The Parallel Roads were formed in a rising sequence (at 260, 325 and 350 m.) and a falling sequence (of 325 and 260 m.) as the ice advanced and retreated. |
