Description: Huntly Castle, Aberdeenshire, from the north-east, showing the magnificent 17th century heraldic doorway of Old Red Sandstone. The rest of the Palace, which dates from the 16th century, is rubble-built of gabbros from the Huntly Intrusion. Built by the Gordons of Huntly, this is the third castle to have occupied the site, and was preceded by a 12th century motte and bailey, and a medieval tower house.
