Description: | Looking west to the Cabrach Inlier (Old Red Sandstone) from Meikle Cairn, on Deveron Bogie watershed, north of Buck of Cabrach. View west of the Bogancloch basic mass (the foreground rocks and low heather/new forest area) with the contact forming a feature to the left. In the distance the agricultural low ground is underlain by a Middle Old Red Sandstone inlier. The main hills immediately above are andalusite semi-pelitic to pelitic schists. The higher hills on the skyline are composed of Islay Subgroup Quartzite (Durnhill Quartzite) except that on the far right (Ben Rinnes - granite). The Bogancloch intrusion is the western continuation of the Insch mass, both intrusions were emplaced during the Caledonian Orogeny. |
