| Description: | Looking west-north-west along the coast from above the Old Harbour, Portsoy. Morayshire. View of coastal section west of Portsoy illustrating Dalradian Supergroup rocks (Precambrian). The promontories in the far distance are composed of Durnhill Quartzite (psammite - locally migmatitic) whereas those of the middle and near distance are limestones, graphitic schists and quartzites of the Portsoy Group. Beyond the foreground white limestone are highly lineated (70 degrees to 82 degrees N.) quartzites and psammites with semi-pelites and dolomite limestones. The pale bluish-grey rock is serpentinite (Portsoy 'Marble') on the second promontory. Behind by the swimming pool are impure limestones, kyanite and sillimanite-bearing pelitic schists and rare basic pods. |
