Caption: Photograph taken from Glencorse Reservoir, Pentland Hills, Midlothian.
Description: The Lower Old Red Sandstone volcanic rocks attained their maximum thickness here in the northern Pentlands. The rocks extend to the Braid Hills and Blackford Hill. It is thought that the main vent of the Pentland volcanic centre was in the vicinity of Colinton. Looking towards Castlelaw Hill, illustrating features in rhyolite and rhyolitic tuff of Castlelaw Hill. Slope to right of Glencorse Reservoir, bottom in basaltic tuff, top in basalt.
