Description: The Pentland Hills looking north from Harlaw Muir, Penicuik towards Castlelaw and Caerketton Hills, both Old Red Sandstone volcanic rocks contrasting with younger Carboniferous rocks in the foreground. The hills from left to right, extreme left north-east slope of Turnhouse Hill is basalt covered in drift; Castlelaw Hill is rhyolite; Allermuir Hill is composed of basalt and andesite with Caerketton Hill being formed of rhyolite tuff and basalt.
