Description: Dumbuckhill, 2 miles east of Dumbarton, Strathclyde Region viewed from across the Clyde. A Lower Carboniferous, Clyde Plateau Volcanic Formation volcanic vent composed of agglomerates and Dalmeny type basalt cutting Lower Carboniferous sediments. Clyde plateau lava-flows of the Kirkpatrick Hills occur on skyline. Lower Carboniferous rocks into which the neck is intruded are of Calciferous Sandstone Measures age. Note how the hill has been partly quarried away. The quarry buildings can just be seen located between the hill and the shore. One of a series of vents on a north-west - south-east trend at the western end of the Kirkpatrick Hills that are demonstrably sources of the Clyde Plateau Volcanic Formation.
