Caption: | View looking north across Glen Urquhart from fields west of Craig Mony. Inverness-shire. |
Description: | The fields in the near ground lie near the contact between Moine and Old Red Sandstone. The middle ground on the right is also largely of Moine. The heavily afforested area in the middle ground on the left is largely of serpentinite, which can be seen in a road-cutting on the left edge of the photo. The village of Milton in the centre of the photo lies at the east edge of the serpentinite body. The green fields and copse area in the middle left-background are largely underlain by limestones. The dark rounded hill in the middle horizon is of Old Red Sandstone (Meall Gorm). General view of Glen Urquhart Complex an ultrabasic body of serpentinite 3.5 square km. in area and intruded into semipelites and psammites of the higher units of the Loch Eil Division. |
