Description: | Craigie Linn (Linn Well), Glen Park, Paisley. Renfrewshire. Basal volcaniclastic sediments of the Clyde Plateau Lava Formation, Glenburn Volcanic Detrital Member, exposed in the undercut waterfall formed by a massive flow of Jedburgh lava. Base of the main sequence of Clyde Plateau Lava Formation. A massive basal flow of fine-grained, grey, aphyric lava forming the waterfall overlies well-bedded, red-purple, volcaniclastic sandstones and siltstones. These sedimentary rocks are exposed at intervals along the base of the lava scarp, eastwards for 1.6 km. to Harelaw Burn. The 1980 IGS Glenburn borehole, 450 m. to the east-north-east penetrated over 45 m. of volcaniclastic sediments with intercalated thin lava flows, resting upon Devono-Carboniferous, Old Red Sandstone facies sediments. |
