Description: | Duncryne Hill 0.5 m. south-east of Gartocharn. Dumbartonshire. Duncryne Lower Carboniferous, Clyde Plateau Volcanic Formation volcanic neck (vent) viewed from the north. This is the only volcanic vent in the district seen penetrating Lower Devonian strata at the present level of erosion. This is more than 700 metres below the projected base of the Clyde Plateau Volcanic Formation. It is petrographically similar to the other Lower Carboniferous vents but contains more lava fragments rich in ferromagnesian minerals. |
