Description: Duncryne Hill 0.5 m. south-east of Gartocharn. Dumbartonshire. Duncryne volcanic neck with tail of boulder clay. Duncryne volcanic vent is unique in the area in that it is the only one in the district seen penetrating the Lower Devonian strata at the present level of erosion. This is more than 700 metres below the projected base of the Clyde Plateau Volcanic Formation, the suite of rocks to which it belongs. If the accepted model of an upward-opening funnel in the shape of the vents is valid then the 300 metre diameter at the present erosion surface would suggest a very large-sized vent at the original level of extrusion.
