| Description: | Lang Craigs, Kilpatrick Hills, 2 miles north-east of Dumbarton, Dumbartonshire. The scarp is formed by lavas of the Lower Carboniferous Clyde Plateau Volcanic Formation. Volcanicity started in the Kilpatrick Hills with the eruption of pyroclastic material from several vents, the Burncrooks Pyroclastic Member, this was followed by the eruption of the Auchinden Lavas, mainly basalts shown here. Rocks of the Clyde Plateau Volcanic Formation occur north of Glasgow in a zone about 6 km. wide running north-east from Dumbarton forming the high ground of the Kilpatrick Hills and the Campsie Fells. |
