Caption: | General view north, from the roadside near Hillside, c. 3 km. south of Aberdeen. |
Description: | The low-lying sandy coastline extending northwards to beyond the mouth of the Ythan can be discerned in the east. Much of the inland area is of low relief and lies at an elevation of approximately 130 m. The granite was extensively quarried in the past, formerly providing the basis for one of the main industries in the area. The City of Aberdeen is in the middle distance, it is underlain to the east by red unmetamorphosed sedimentary rocks of Old Red Sandstone (Devonian) age while to the west it is underlain by the Aberdeen granite mass. |
