Description: Glen Valtos, near Uig in west Lewis. Outer Hebrides. The Glen Valtos subglacial meltwater channel is viewed from near the centre. The subglacial meltwater channel is 2.5 km. long and at its maximum depth it is over 45 metres deep. Note the great depth and the misfit stream. The cliffed slopes have developed stratified scree deposits several metres thick, several are shown in the photograph (some partly quarried for road aggregate). No glaciofluvial deposits occur in the channel but some small mounds of poorly-sorted fluvial gravels occur at the mouth of the channel at
