Description: Near Carstairs. Lanarkshire. An esker ridge. This steep-sided ridge is part of a group of anastomosing sub-parallel ridges aligned north-east in the vicinity of Carstairs. Compositionally the eskers are formed of ill-sorted cobble and boulder gravel and this along with their topographic expression indicates a probably sub-ice, fluvial, origin. Anastomosing ridges are a network of ridges that are characterized by branching and rejoining.
