Description: Near Carstairs. Lanarkshire. Looking west. Esker ridges. A group of steep-sided sub-parallel anastomosing ridges. The esker ridges are formed of ill-sorted cobble and boulder gravel and this, along with their topographic form indicates a probable sub-ice, fluvial, origin for the deposits. The flat foreground is underlain by peat which in turn probably overlies glacial outwash deposits. Anastomosing ridges are a network of ridges that are characterized by branching and rejoining.
