Description: Near Strathblane. Central Region. Volcanic vents and lava scarp at the western end of the Campsie Hills. Volcanic vents Dumgoyne and Dumfoyne are seen protruding through Lower Carboniferous sediments. In the right of the photograph the Lower Carboniferous Clyde Plateau Volcanic Formation lavas form a well-marked stepped scarp. In the Dumgoyne vent ring-faulting developed and allowed adjacent country-rock to subside by as much as 100 metres. Rocks of the Clyde Plateau Volcanic Formation occur north of Glasgow in a zone about 6 km. wide running north-east from Dumbarton, forming the high ground of the Kilpatrick Hills and the Campsie Fells.
