Description: Near Lendalfoot. Kyle & Carrick. Looking south-west. The northern serpentinite belt of the Ballantrae Igneous Complex. Beyond the area of raised beach in the foreground the serpentinite belt forms the grassy slopes in the middle distance upon which the sheep are grazing. Beyond the serpentinite the upstanding mass of Carleton Hill is formed principally of spilitic lavas. The Ballantrae Igneous Complex forms a typical ophiolite assemblage including the Steinmann Trinity of serpentinite, pillow lavas and cherts.
