Description: | Aird Fenish, west Lewis. Outer Hebrides. Looking north-east. The wild and rocky coast with sea stacks of Lewisian gneiss cut by Laxfordian (Precambrian) granite veins of Uig Hills-Harris granite complex. The complex consists essentially of a series of granitic veins and sheets ranging in thickness from a few centimetres to several hundred metres. It is thought that this represents the upper portion of a dome-shaped granitic-migmatite complex consisting of intrusive granite and granitized country rock. The complex has been dated at c. 1715 Ma. |
