Caption: Gregory's Quarry, Wilsford Heath.
Description: Gregory's Quarry, Wilsford Heath. Limestone working, Gregory's Quarry. A slightly narrower angle of view of the foregoing subject, with a figure providing scale. This shows how the crane-operated chain and hook are used to manipulate the freed block to allow the rigging of a lifting loop as seen above. After removal of the block of rock to the adjacent working bench surface the basal thin-bedding slab was manually split away to leave a monumental block formed from a single 'post' - probably a single cross-bedded unit.
