Description: Copper Hill Quarry, Ancaster. Upper Lincolnshire Limestone, Copper Hill Quarry. Approximately half-way along the north-north-west face of the quarry, showing the Upper Lincolnshire Limestone which was worked as a building stone. An upper division of steeply north-dipping, cross-bedded, coarse-grained, peloidal, shelly oolite grainstone is bed 26 of the BGS section measured by N.G. Berridge. It is probably equivalent to the 'Ancaster Rag' commercial stone and the Clipsham Member of Michael Ashton. The less coarse-grained and less vigorously cross-bedded but otherwise similar underlying grainstone includes beds 24 and 25 of the BGS section and equates with the 'Ancaster Freestone' and the Sleaford Member of Ashton. The unconformable base is indicated by the head of the hammer held by the observer.
