Description: Copper Hill Quarry, Ancaster. Copper Hill Quarry, main south-south-west face. This face shows about 22 m. of Lincolnshire Limestone strata. The upper half of the face, darker in colour and weathered towards the top into thin flags, consists of coarse-grained oolitic grainstones commonly showing cross-bedding. The lower half of the face is much more recently worked and consists of flat-bedded mainly oolitic wackestones with thin partings of marl. The two types of rock represent parts of the Upper and Lower Lincolnshire Limestone respectively.
