Description: Bonnington Mains, Lanarkshire. Kettle holes to the north-east of Bonnington Mains viewed from the lower of the peat-covered depressions. These bowl-shaped depressions are formed by the melting of large, detached blocks of melting stagnant ice that had been buried in the glacial drift left by a retreating glacier. This style of hummocky topography is typical of the ground to the south-east of Lanark.
