| Description: | Oblique aerial view from above Ockle Point, Ardnamurchan. Highland Region. General view of Eigg, Rum and the Cuillins of Skye. Ardnamurchan, Rum and the Cuillins all form major Tertiary plutonic igneous central complexes while Eigg is composed of a succession of predominantly basic lavas. The basalts of Eigg are part of the Tertiary igneous province covering large areas of western Scotland and Northern Ireland. They are part of the initial accumulation of a sub-aerial, thick sequence of basaltic lavas which were followed by the establishment of the major central volcanoes which are now found on Skye, Arran, St. Kilda, Rum, and Ardnamurchan. |
