Caption: Oblique aerial view at the Old Man of Storr, Skye.
Description: The slip has been caused by the massive lava plateau forming on top of 1000 feet of significantly weaker Jurassic sediments and so creating an unstable structure. Slip has been by a series of rotational segments. The entire slip is post-glacial and is now regarded as a stable mature slip. Landslipped blocks of Tertiary basaltic lavas form the pinnacles of rock in the foreground. The Old Man of Storr is just left of centre. Flat-lying basaltic lavas can be seen in situ on the face of the cliff and the mist-shrouded peak of The Storr.
