Description: Grovebury Road Quarry, George Garside (Sand) Ltd. Leighton Buzzard. Large-scale cross-bedding in Woburn Sands (Lower Cretaceous). The 'Red Sands' at the top of the Woburn Sands, here lie partly below the water table, so that the sands are worked wet by suction dredging. This distant view of the face (6 - 8 m. high) across the flooded pit shows large-scale cross-bedding typical of sand-wave environments. The medium to coarse-grained sands with small pebbles are sold chiefly for concreting. Photo by permission of the Company.
